One of Trenton's most famous symbols is the Lower Trenton Bridge, more commonly known as the "Trenton Makes Bridge." This is today one of the few toll-free bridges spanning 1,022 ft over the Delaware River connecting New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The slogan won a 1910 Chamber of Commerce contest, evoking Trenton's leading position in multiple industries including ceramics, wire rope, and cigars.
